Among its most notable claims to fame, Sarasota has a long history of celebrating arts and culture thanks, in part, to Ringling Bros. circus. In 1927, John Ringling completed his Venetian Gothic mansion Cà d’Zan and made it his winter home. Today, it is part of the sprawling grounds that make up the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art.
Too Cool To MissIn addition to the Ringling Museum of Art, the Ringlings also founded the Ringling College of Art and Design, paving the way for countless other creatives to make their mark on the community. Today, you will find countless examples of public artwork through the city include the famous “Kissing Statue,” officially named Embracing Peace, as well as murals, metal sculptures, ornamental architecture and more.
Notable AttractionsIf you’re a fan of the performing arts, you’re in luck. Sarasota features countless venues for live music, theatre and comedy shows. Enjoy national touring shows or the Sarasota Orchestra at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center in its 1,700+ auditorium; visit the Sarasota Art Museum for Jazz Thursdays with live performances every week; or experience a night of High Drama at the Sarasota Opera House.

Perhaps Sarasota’s most notable public space is its shopping and dining destination, St. Armands Circle. Located just steps from Sarasota Bay, this local hub is a casual spot for tourists to visit for everything from designer sunglasses to boogie boards to an ice cream cone.

Located just off I-75, the Mall at UTC (or simply UTC, as the locals call it) is Sarasota's premeier casual and designer shopping. This sprawling campus features over 150 retail shops and restaurants including Saks Fifth Avenue, Pottery Barn, The Cheesecake Factory and more. Rain or shine, this spot is the perfect place to take a break from the elements.
